Tips For Learning And Understanding Quran
No matter you want to memorize
the whole Quran or may be certain portions of it, two things of prime
importance to memorize the Quran include having a pure intention and having a
firm determination. As challenging as the task sounds (learning Quran), it is a
very doable task if one puts their heart and soul into it. Having the right intention
is one of the single most important things required whether you wish to
memorize the Quran or do anything else for the sake of Allaah, rather than
doing for people’s sake (to prove them a point just how well you know Quran).
Prophet Muhammad said, “Verily, deeds depend upon intentions. Indeed, every
person will be rewarded based on their intentions…”
After a person has purified
his intention, he needs to make sure that he has a firm determination to
persevere and do everything that it takes to complete memorization. Having a
firm resolve is the key to being successful, otherwise he or she will not take
the whole matter seriously, will grow tired easily, and leave halfway through
the task.
Here are some tips from experienced Quran tutors for the
students of the Quran:
Read and Recite- Talking
about reading and reciting Quran, start with 5 minutes a day, gradually move to
30 minutes each day. Reciting and pondering over the Book of Allah and devoting
regular time to its study can be instrumental in improving your connection with the Quran, helping
in your learning of the book of Allah.
To ease the process of
learning Quran, find a translation of the Quran that you like and read a few ayah
a day and reflect on them.
Maintain a notebook-
Maintaining a notebook to note down something that has really struck a chord
with you, or something that you have doubts about to address it later with your
Quran tutor, can be highly beneficial.
Memorize parts of the Quran-
You cannot memorize the complete Quran in one go, don’t even try. Take it slow,
memorize a small portion of the Quran, such as one Ayah every day, and recite from
your memory everyday in your Salah!
Listen and Discuss- Listening
to something is the best way to learn something. Browse through and listen to
the various recitations of Qaris, to explanations of the Surahs by different
scholars and motivating lectures. It is equally important that you discuss
whatever you’ve learnt with your family, which will not only make you confident
by strengthening your learning, but you’ll also become someone that spreads the
word of Allaah.
