Make the Most of the Last Ten Days of Ramadan
Each day of the holy month of Ramadan is no less than a blessing.
Muslims leave no stone unturned in making the most of this time to earn Allah’s
mercy, forgiveness and blessings. If you want to make your Ramadan productive-
both spiritually and physically- maximize your prayers in the last days of
Ramadan as they are the most blessed days of this holy month. Laylatul Qadr
(the Night of Power) lies in the last 10 days of Ramadan, it is described in
the Quran as, "better than a thousand months" (97:3) meaning any
action done on this night is better than acting for one thousand months which
do not contain the night of Qadr.
Here are some tips of things you can do to make the most of last 10 days
of Ramadan, and make sure you are maximizing your worship for Laylatul Qadr:
Recite The Quran- You can choose Surahs or passages from the Quran to recite that you may have heard in Tarawih this past Ramadan, and also read their translation and Tafseer. If you attend a class where the recitation of the Quran is taught, the right time is here to put your knowledge into practice. Don’t beat yourself up over your past performance since Allah is forgiving and merciful.
Learn reciting Quran accurately and understand its meaning in the hands
of experienced Quran teachers at “Mumtaz”- an
online institute of Quran studies.
Memorize This Short Dua- Memorize the dua the Prophet taught us:
“Allaahumma innaka ‘afuwwun
tuhibb al-‘afwa fa’affu ‘anni.”
(O Allaah, You are forgiving and You love forgiveness, so forgive me).
Make A List Of Personal Dua- Think about all the things you want from Allah for
yourself and for your brothers and sisters, both here and in the afterlife, and
make a list of each and everything. Allah loves to hear from us. Make dua,
especially for forgiveness, in the last third of the night (Tahajjud/Qiyaam) since our Lord,
the Glorious One, descends towards the heaven of the earth on this night.
Memorize a different dua every night, which can be just one line not necessarily long, which you can put on index cards and then practice them at night in prayer.
Do Itikaf- Itikaf is the greatest Sunnah that a Muslim can observe in the last ten days where all the time that a Muslim spends is in the worship of Allah Almighty, setting all the intrusions of worldly things aside.
We cannot take away from the fact that to build an extensive worship
routine in the last 10 days, our body requires a lot of energy and motivation,
so it’s advisable to not skip Suhoor (the pre-dawn meal), fix in some power
naps throughout the day, keep yourself hydrated (drink slowly with gaps instead
of drinking down all at once), and finish reading a book on the Prophet which
will increase your love for him and Islam, seeing how much he struggled for
Allah’s sake will motivate you to push yourself even harder during these last
ten nights.
